Spring Yet?

 The weather continues to change. A couple of nice sunny days, then several cold, cloudy, snow, rain or freezing rain days. 

The ice is still on the lake. 




The the road is starting to thaw underneath. We are seeing sink-holes, wash-outs, culverts heaving and clogged etc.

Parking at 911 is very sloppy.



                                                                Maple Sugar Season

Maple Sugar Syrup season is on. If anyone is looking to buy some amazing local produce, stop in at Roger's Sugar Shack located on 149 Forest View Road. After the boiling season is over, it can be purchased at his house located at 79 Yogi Road.

Ice is out! Boating season starts.

 We woke up this morning to the sight of water on the lake, not ice. Well, a small amount of ice that will not last the day... The birds are back too. Mergansers or Loons? Yesterday, a part of Clarke Road between Forest View Road and Storey Road began to flood over due to a clogged drain and high waters. The township came quickly and dealt with it before we had a total washout.   If anyone is interested, Peter Healy is selling his boat. It's a 2006 Sylvan Expedition Sport 1600 with a 2014 Suzuki 90 HP four stroke engine. Contact Peter for more details at 705-734-4094.

Spring 2025 - not yet

 I understand that the Ground Hog on Feb 2nd indicated an early spring??? Not here at Elephant Lake. As you know we had that ice storm you all likely experienced. Prior to the ice, we had about 6 inches of snow, then the ice storm. We had a power outage starting around 1:30 am on Monday. It came back before noon. The internet and cell service was out for much longer but is back now... The roads all over the area were a mess with numerous trees downed by the ice. Power in Bancroft and Haliburton was off, some still off.  Getting to 911 from the lake was a challenge with plenty of branches down. Tuesday was sunny and the temperatures made it up to zero. Parking at 911 was extremely sloppy. The snow was melting in the sunshine making not only the parking lot messy, but also the road in from there to the lake. At this time, coming in is very difficult unless you have tracks on the ATV or UTV.  Terry Y attempted to get in yesterday to his cottage on his ATV but finally bogged ...
